Sonny Angel Animal Series Version 3: Original Lineup Collector Guide

Sonny Angel Animal Series Version 3 belongs to the long-running core animal line from Dreams, but this particular blind box is especially interesting because it uses the earlier turquoise packaging associated with the series around 2014. It is a small time capsule from before Sonny Angel became quite so ubiquitous: a sealed, single-figure box with the original Version 3 graphics rather than a loose figure whose packaging history has been lost.

The complete pictured Version 3 lineup

The box panel names 12 regular designs: Zebra, Buffalo, Hippopotamus, Owl, Alpaca, French Bull Dog, Lop Ear Rabbit, Parrot, Gorilla, American Short hair, Duckbill, and Chameleon. The wording and capitalization are worth noting because they come directly from this package generation. Together they make Version 3 more varied than a simple zoo assortment: familiar mammals sit beside an owl, parrot, duck-billed animal, and brightly colored chameleon.

Each design keeps the familiar Sonny Angel body and changes the sculpted animal headgear. The front panel spotlights Owl, while the lineup side lets a sealed-box collector identify exactly which regular figures belong to this edition without opening it. That distinction matters because animal motifs recur across later Sonny Angel releases; the version number and the 12 names are more reliable identifiers than color alone.

How the secret changes the pull

The front of the package states “12 Kinds + Secret,” so there are 13 possible outcomes even though only the 12 regular designs are pictured. No probability is printed on the photographed box, and the secret itself is deliberately not shown. The official Animal 3 product information also warns that secret figures are distributed randomly and may not appear in every assorted box of 12.

That makes the secret a reasonable collector-described chaser: it is an unpictured, non-guaranteed pull beyond the regular lineup. This is not a claim that Dreams used an official capital-C “Chase” designation, and there is no supported numerical pull rate for this package. Collectors should be wary of any exact odds attached to an unopened Version 3 box unless those odds come with separate documentation.

Scale, material, and what “blind box” means here

The official Animal 3 catalog describes the figures as approximately 75–100 mm tall, or roughly 3–4 inches, depending on the headgear. It lists a weight of about 32–34 g and ATBC-PVC construction. A single carton is approximately 50 × 102 × 45 mm. Those compact dimensions explain why a complete set can display comfortably while still giving chunky designs such as Buffalo, Gorilla, and Owl distinct silhouettes.

This is a true blind box: the exterior identifies the assortment, not the figure inside. Even buying a full 12-box assortment is not described by the manufacturer as a guarantee of every regular type, and it does not guarantee a secret. A single sealed box should therefore be approached as one random pull, not as a route to a specific animal.

Original-package cues for sealed collectors

The strongest identity cues are the turquoise carton, the “Animal Series Version.3” title, the owl illustration on the front, and the 12-name lineup panel. The BlindBoxes product is represented as new and sealed, with photographs of all sides rather than only a stock image. Because this package is from around 2014 and long out of print in this form, minor corner softening, edge rub, or flap wear can matter to collectors who keep boxes intact even when the inner figure is the main attraction.

Before buying, compare the photographed carton rather than expecting a newly manufactured box. Check that the version title and lineup match, examine the top and bottom flaps, and decide whether the visible shelf wear suits your collecting goal. Openers receive the suspense of an older Sonny Angel assortment; sealed-package collectors receive an identifiable early Version 3 presentation with its lineup still documented on the box.
